Police Believe a ‘Ticketed Passenger’ Abandoned Dog Found Tied to a Pole at Pittsburgh Airport

This is the second time this year a dog has been found left alone in a parking lot at the Pittsburgh International Airport

Several months after a dog was abandoned at the Pittsburgh International Airport, another canine has been found alone at the facility.

On Thursday, the Allegheny County Police Department (ACPD) shared on Facebook that the agency was “alerted to a dog that was tied to a pole and appeared to be abandoned in the short-term parking garage.”

According to the ACPD, officers arrived at the lot on Thursday afternoon, shortly after receiving calls about the pup, and untied the dog. The dog, who WTAE identified as a Chihuahua, was found in good condition and without a microchip.

“There is no excuse for leaving your pets behind,” the police department added in their Facebook statement about the incident. The post also included a photo of the dog tied to the parking lot pole.

After picking up the pup, the ACPD gave a social media update about the animal, sharing several photos from inside the airport of a man with a dog that appears to be the one found in the parking lot.

“We are looking to identify and speak to this man in connection with the dog left behind at the airport today. At this point, we believe he was a ticketed passenger that spent time inside the airport before leaving the dog in the short-term parking garage prior to his flight,” the ACPD wrote in their update.

The police department concluded the post by asking any of those with information about the dog and how the pet ended up alone at the airport to contact the County Police Tip Line at 1-833-ALL-TIPS.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time the police department has dealt with such a situation. In August, the ACPD was called to the Pittsburgh airport after a dog was found alone in a stroller at the airport’s short-term parking lot.

An investigation revealed that the canine was left behind by his owner, who “intentionally abandoned the dog near short-term parking before boarding a plane to a resort destination in Mexico,” according to a late August update from the ACPD.

The update added that the canine was now in a loving foster home thanks to the assistance of Animal Friends, a Pittsburgh-based animal shelter.
