A Texas farmer had a remarkable discovery when he found a huge egg laid by an average-sized chicken. This egg wass no ordinary egg; it was a double egg, a rare occurrence in the world of poultry.
Double-shelled eggs are extremely rare and often doubteed by many, but they occur when an egg that is almost ready to be laid reverses direction and gets a new layer of albumen covered by a second shell. This phenomenon is known as a ‘counter-peristalsis contraction.’
In a YouTube video uploaded by the farmer in July 2015, he can be seen tapping the egg and making a small crack in the shell. As he peels away a small portion of the shell, he reveals the yolk inside. To his surprise, there’s another egg within the larger one.
Excitedly, the farmer exclaims, “A double egger!” He proceeds to pour the yolk out of the shell until only the inner egg remains. He jokingly comments, “No double yolks, that’s for wimps. We got double eggs!” The second egg inside the big one turns out to be a regular-sized egg, just like those found at the grocery store.
This rare occurrence of a double egg is a unique and fascinating natural phenomenon that garnered significant attention and has been shared with millions of viewers.
