My Husband Ruined Mother’s Day, So I Decided to Ruin His Father’s Day

They say revenge is best served cold, but this woman didn’t wait. After her husband ruined her special day, she decided to make his day miserable. She went online to ask if she went too far.
She shared what happened.
My husband and I have two kids (a 6-year-old boy and an 8-month-old girl). For two weeks before Mother’s Day, he told me he had a whole weekend planned for me. This was unusual because in past years, he didn’t do much for Mother’s Day, while I always did a lot for him on Father’s Day. I felt unappreciated.

I thought he finally understood and was going to make this year special. All I asked for was a massage, but he kept saying that wasn’t enough. So, I started to believe he had really planned something big.

Anyway, Friday comes and a bunch of people start showing up. He invited about 10-15 people over, and I only knew two of them. He called it the “Mother’s Day bonfire.” There was a fire, but I ended up chasing our kids (my 6-year-old while holding the baby) and looking after someone else’s two kids because they weren’t watching them. No one talked to me all evening. I wasn’t noticed until the end when my husband’s friend told me he was taking my husband out four-wheeling.

I told him my husband wasn’t going anywhere. I was very hurt because this was supposed to be my special weekend. Instead, I had to watch other people’s kids, no one talked to me, I had to clean up, and now my husband wanted to leave.

I explained how hurt I was the next morning. He said he understood, apologized, and admitted he wasn’t thinking clearly. We didn’t do anything on Saturday because he spent half the day sleeping.

Yesterday, his boss called him at 6 am and asked him to come to work because they were short-staffed. He said yes. I was hurt and said, “But it’s Mother’s Day.” He replied, “I know, I’m sorry, but I don’t want to miss the chance for more hours.” I understood, so I let it go.

He got home at 5 pm and started getting the kids dressed, so I thought we were finally going to celebrate. We went for a walk, which I love, but after 5 minutes, he complained about the flies (they weren’t even that bad) and made us turn around. I was disappointed again.

When we got home, he lay down on the couch and said, “Oh, your gift is in the truck.” I went to check and found a $5 storage container for sugar/flour. I do like things like that, but I was so hurt by then. I asked if I could at least get a massage, and he said, “I’m sorry, babe, I’m just so tired,” and fell asleep at 8 pm, even though he usually stays up until midnight or 1 am. I just sat there crying.

I took the three gifts I bought for Father’s Day and threw them in the trash. They were personalized items that cost a lot, but I didn’t care anymore. This morning, he found them in the garbage and asked why they were there, covered in food. I told him they were his Father’s Day gifts and left it at that. Now he’s saying he “tried” to make my weekend special and is hurt that I threw away his gifts to get back at him because things didn’t go as planned.
