“Breakups are painful, but we can bounce back stronger. A reader shared a story that might inspire others going through the same thing. It took her breakup to realize she deserved better.”
I lived off of him.
“We dated for 2 years and recently moved to a new city together. I lived in his apartment, he paid the rent, and I didn’t have to work. I wanted to, but he said it wasn’t necessary.
I was okay with that since his salary covered everything, and I was enjoying life without worries. I felt lucky to have him and didn’t have to do anything.
But then his behavior changed. He became distant and cold, and I found out he was cheating on me.
We had a big fight, and he kicked me out, calling me ungrateful. I had nowhere to go, so I went to a café, feeling upset.
A man sat with me and asked why I was sad. I said I wanted to be alone. He told me, ‘Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can come together.’ He bought me a milkshake and wished me luck. It was so kind, I cried in the restroom.
I found a job and rented a small room. I stopped relying on others and started making my own choices. I began baking cakes and selling them.
Now, I have my own bakery with a small team. I might not make as much money as before, but I’m confident in myself and my future.”
I’m grateful.
“If I had forgiven him and stayed, I wouldn’t have grown. It’s sad he wasn’t loyal, but I’m glad he kicked me out.
I often think about the man in the café. He gave me hope and motivation to go on. I haven’t seen him since, but I’ll never forget his words.”
