A woman in her late twenties recently shared a shocking discovery: the child she has cared for over the past three years is not her biological son. Now, she is planning to divorce her husband but feels torn about leaving the child she loves. In an emotional letter, she told her full story and asked for advice on what to do next.
The Story:
Sarah, who is 29, feels heartbroken and confused. She said she’s having a hard time thinking clearly because of the emotional pain she’s going through. In her letter, she wrote, “Dear Bright Side, I’m sharing my tough situation, hoping your readers can help me figure out what to do next. I also want to warn other women who might go through something similar—this has been a nightmare I wouldn’t wish on anyone.”
Her relationship with her husband, Joe, now 30, started in college. “We met in college, and I liked him right away. Surprisingly, he liked me too, and we’ve been together ever since.”
“Six years ago, we both decided it was time to start a family,” she explained. But after trying for years, they couldn’t have a baby. “We tried for years with no luck, and I was heartbroken. Joe suggested we see a doctor, and after some tests, the doctor told me the thing I feared the most. I couldn’t have children. I was devastated, and it felt like my world was falling apart. I cried all the time and thought I was losing my mind.”
Although Joe supported her and suggested adoption, Sarah wanted to be a mother to her own biological child. “After thinking a lot, I realized surrogacy was an option. Joe agreed at first, but he later had doubts when he saw how expensive it would be.”
The couple was having money problems, and Sarah found it hard to focus on work because of her emotions. When she told her family, including her cousin Mary, she was surprised when Mary offered to be their surrogate to save them money. “I was so grateful to her,” Sarah wrote.
After several failed IVF attempts, Mary finally became pregnant, and three years ago, Sarah became a mother to a beautiful baby boy. “We named him Henry, and I was so happy.”
Mary stayed involved in Henry’s life, often visiting and babysitting when Sarah had to travel for work. Joe would often suggest asking Mary to help with Henry, but Sarah didn’t think much of it. However, everything changed recently when Henry got sick and needed blood tests.
“Recently, I took my son to the hospital, and a test showed I wasn’t his biological mom. I was shocked. I got mad at the doctor, thinking it was a mistake, but my husband admitted that he had gotten close to Mary during the IVF process and had slept with her. I felt so hurt and betrayed. The child I loved so much wasn’t mine, but the result of their affair,” Sarah said. “I couldn’t even look at Joe and told him to leave right away.
