2 People Who Have a Twisted Understanding of Friendship

We frequently rely on our friends to help us during difficult times, expecting their understanding and loyalty. However, reality doesn’t always match our aspirations. This page tells the experiences of friendships that ended due to treachery, disappointment, or profound emotional wounds. While these experiences can be painful, they also teach us essential lessons and help us grow as individuals.

Story 1:

A close friend traveled abroad for a week. I was at a party and noticed her spouse getting affectionate with another female. I took a photograph. When my friend returned, she stated that she wants a divorce. That’s when I showed her the “incriminating picture.”
However, what she did next seemed like a slap in the face.

She handed me a photo and said, “And someone else saw you talking and smiling with the same girl later on. “Is this what friendship means to you?” I tried to clarify that I was only speaking with her to find out what was going on before saying anything. I didn’t want to cause difficulties in her marriage without knowing the whole story.

But my friend thought I should have told her first, so she cut me off. Even though I still believe I did the right thing, our mutual acquaintances found out and agreed with her, claiming I did not act like a loyal friend. In the end, I lost the entire gang.

Story 2:

My buddy texted that she needed to phone me regarding her wedding. I expected her to invite me to be in it, but instead she told me I couldn’t go. You see, my mother di:ed within the last year, and I cannot bring bad luck on her joyous occasion.
She’d still give me the invitation, because she didn’t want to be impolite, but I wasn’t allowed to attend. When I received the invitation, I simply threw it away rather than replying that I would not be attending. © ypsm | Reddit

I was returning from a friend’s house who lives an hour and a half away. I only made it about 10 minutes on my way home before having to pull over due to car issues. I was in a very terrible part of town late at night, and it was pouring rain.
I called my friend and asked her to come fetch me, but she said she couldn’t since she had to get up early. I ended up walking to the nearest motel, which was known to be unsafe. The fact that I had to stay alone in a dirty motel in a terrible part of the city just because my “friend” wouldn’t drive 10 minutes to pick me up still blows my mind. © kls17 / Reddit

Story 4:

This particular occasion, I wasn’t feeling well. As wonderful friends, they stayed with me and called a cab to return home—their house.
I awoke in a cab, and the driver asked for payment for the ride. I had to pay for two rides (one to and one from my house), and the cab driver lectured me on what friendship is and how they were terrible friends. © coiso/Reddit

Story 5:

I had an awful breakup with my live-in girlfriend, so one of my professed best friends and his wife offered her to live with them. She’s still there two years later, a mile from my house, and I don’t think I’ve spoken with him since.

Story 6:

It was my father’s funeral, and my claimed best buddy arrived late and inappropriately dressed. My father had been raising him since he was 12, and he never bothered to pay him the respect he deserved. I grabbed him from his car, showed him a photo of my father, and told him he was dead to me. © Unknown author/Reddit

In the beginning of my senior year of high school, I had a fairly close group of friends. One friend’s family was intending to relocate to Florida at the end of the year, so I thought it would be a fantastic idea for us to visit him for a week or weekend over our summer vacation.
One other person thought it was a terrific idea, but the other four mocked me with snarky comments like, “Oh yeah, that’s definitely going to happen.” Fast forward to summer, and I had sort of drifted apart because I got a summer job and was never really invited to anything with them anymore, or I was always working when I was. I went onto Twitter one day to see that they had all just bought their plane tickets to fly down to Florida for a weekend to visit said friend. © yingsin / Reddit

Story 8:

After I went to boot camp, all of my buddies forgot about me and hardly spoke to me. What makes it worse is that I gave my “friend” a recently constructed gaming PC that I was not planning to use. © Unknown author/Reddit

Story 9:

Carolyn, my best friend, contacted my house when I was about five years old and asked if I could come over to play. She lived immediately across the street, making it easy for me to rush over. She also had a child-size playhouse in the backyard, which was our favorite hanging location.
I ran outside, across the street, around the side of her house, and up to the playhouse door. Just as I arrived, the door swung open, Carolyn emerged, and dropped a pail of water on me. I recognized she had duped me, and my five-year-old mind assumed she had damaged my brand-new clothing. © MiniRipperton | Reddit

Three-week vacation in a different country on the opposite side of the world. Nearly two weeks in, she woke me at 6 a.m. with her bag packed and departed. This was after she’d threatened to leave almost every day since we arrived.
I’m now considered a poor buddy because I let her go home. I get annoyed just thinking about it. © Jennimess | Reddit

Story 11:

She needed a prom date, and as a good buddy, I agreed to go on it. I ended up spending $300 and several hours being passed over in favor of her ex-boyfriend. So I basically paid to be treated terribly, went home, watched TV, and didn’t speak to her for a long. © Penguin90125 | Reddit

Story 12:

In eighth grade, my orchestra class went on a school trip to San Francisco. I had booked a room with three of my best friends six months in advance. We always did things together. The day of the excursion arrived.
When we were situated into our rooms, one of them asked if I could trade rooms with one of the girls from another room because she “wasn’t boring.” I was outraged because they didn’t want me. I yelled at them, grabbed my luggage, and went. © BetaCyclone / Reddit.
