Why You Drool When You Sleep and How You Can Stop It?

Drooling during sleep is common but can be uncomfortable or embarrassing, sometimes indicating underlying health issues. It occurs when excess saliva escapes due to relaxed facial muscles and an open mouth during deep sleep.

Common causes include nasal congestion, which forces mouth breathing, and sleeping positions that allow gravity to pull saliva out. Sleep apnea, marked by snoring and gasping, may also contribute to drooling. Solutions range from clearing sinuses before bed, changing sleep positions, maintaining a healthy weight, and elevating your head while sleeping.

In some cases, specialized dental devices or medication adjustments may help. Severe cases linked to neurological issues might require surgical intervention. Addressing drooling not only improves comfort but also enhances overall sleep quality.
