I Uncovered a Family Secret After Choosing a “Forbidden” Name for My Son

I’m in a difficult situation and need advice. After my son was born, I told my parents we’d named him Chris. My dad went pale, and my mom’s smile looked forced.

Soon, Dad left, saying he felt unwell and would visit in a few days. Alone, my mom urged me to change the name, saying there was a reason Chris wasn’t an option. I refused.
Now at home with my baby, Dad barely talks to me, which is unusual.

When I asked Mom why, she broke down crying. It turns out she had an affair with an ex named Chris 20 years ago. Dad stayed with her, but the name always triggered painful memories. We chose Chris to honor my husband’s late brother, so the name is deeply meaningful to us.

This is tearing my family apart, but I have to think about my new family too. What should I do?
