A baby boy named Dima was born in a hospital in Ukraine. But his life would never be the same after his parents left him because he was sick. The medical staff was left to take care of the newborn, who was diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a long-term disease in which fluid builds up in the brain in an abnormal way.He spent more time in the hospital, and it became clear that his parents didn’t want anything to do with him.
They had given up on their child and told the medical workers to find him a new home. In the end, Dima was taken in by a shelter in Kramatorsk, Eastern Ukraine, that cared for disabled children.though Dima’s condition made things hard, the people who took care of him were eager to make his life the best it could be. Many people with hydrocephalus can live regular lives with few restrictions if they get the right care. But Dima made slow progress. He still couldn’t walk or eat on his own when he was four years old.
