Rep. Brandon Gill (R-Texas) has called for the deportation of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) to Somalia, claiming America “would be a better place” without her. His statement, posted on X, accompanied a video where Omar advises Somali immigrants—potentially undocumented—on how to resist federal immigration enforcement.
The video, shared by conservative influencer Greg Price, alleges that Omar is coaching illegal immigrants to evade deportation. Gill’s remarks sparked strong reactions, with some X users calling for her expulsion and legal action against her.
Gill later asserted that Omar’s actions raise questions about her loyalty to the U.S. A spokesperson for Gill accused her of facilitating illegal immigration.
Omar, responding in an interview with Zeteo’s Mehdi Hasan, dismissed Gill’s comments as “idiotic,” criticizing what she called the “dumbing down” of political discourse in the U.S.

“I am at the point where it has become really hard to have an intellectual debate with any of these people because the level of stupidity that they are displaying every single day is frankly, embarrassing,” Omar said. “Not just in Congress, but as Americans.”
“And the fact that these people are allowed to say just the most ridiculous things tells you that the dumbing of the United States has arrived, because how else do we get a Trump presidency again?”
