A study by Germany’s Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research predicts severe consequences, including widespread food shortages, flooding of coastal cities, and frequent extreme weather events like heatwaves, wildfires, and tropical storms.

The study highlights the urgency for faster carbon reduction and removal, as even low-to-moderate emission scenarios could lead to significant warming. The effects of greenhouse gases, including methane, are exacerbated by feedback loops, where one change in the climate accelerates another.
