“Dorothy Hoffner, a 104-year-old Chicago woman, passed away shortly after attempting to break the world record for the oldest person to skydive. Just a week before, Hoffner became the oldest person to skydive, and Skydive Chicago is working with Guinness World Records to certify her jump. Sweden’s Linnéa Ingegärd Larsson set the Guinness World Record in May 2022 when she was 103 years old.
Hoffner’s close friend, Joe Conant, reported that she was found dead on Monday morning at Brookdale Lake View senior living community, and it appeared she had passed away peacefully in her sleep. Hoffner’s remarkable spirit and enthusiasm for life were evident as she joyfully led a tandem 13,500-foot jump from a Skyvane plane in Ottawa, Illinois, just 85 miles south of Chicago. This was her second skydiving experience, with her first one occurring at the age of 100 when she had to be pushed out of the plane.
Dorothy Hoffner’s inspiring story reminds us that age is just a number and that it’s never too late to embrace the thrill of a lifetime. Her legacy is celebrated for the attention it brought to her remarkable journey in skydiving.”
