During the introductory confirmation hearing for Pam Bondi, President Donald Trump’s pick for the Attorney General position, Sen. Adam Schiff hectored her and demanded she not prosecute the political enemies of President Trump. Commenters online were quick to call out Schiff’s hypocrisy, and some even demanded he be arrested.
As background, Schiff, pressing her on the matter of going after Trump’s enemies, asked, “Let me ask you a different simple question. The president also wants to jail Liz Cheney.” Continuing, and in the process demanding a direct answer on if Cheney should be investigated, he snapped, “Sitting here today, are you aware of any factual basis to investigate Liz Cheney? Yes or no?”
Refusing to give him the answer he wanted, AG Bondi told him that she would not answer hypothetical questions. That sent Sen. Schiff into a furious rage. Responding in a fiery rant, he snapped, “Hypothetical? I’m asking you sitting here today whether you are aware of a factual predicate to investigate Liz Cheney.”
After a bit more back and forth, Schiff asked, “Can you tell him that [he] lost the 2020 election? Can you say that? Do you have the independence to say that you have the gravitas, the stature, the intestinal fortitude to say, ’Donald Trump, you lost the 2020, election.’ Can you tell us that here today?” Bondi told him, “Senator, what I can tell you is, I will never play politics. You’re trying to engage me in a gotcha.”
Legal analyst and law professor Jonathan Turley, commenting on the matter of Schiff’s hectoring of Bondi and demands she not prosecute Trump’s political enemies, said, “Sen. Adam Schiff is today objecting that he wants guarantees that Pam Bondi will not prosecute Trump’s opponents. Again, the irony is crushing from one of lawfare’s happiest warriors.”
He added, roasting Schiff’s change of face as soon as the tides of power turned, “It is like Captain Jack Sparrow demanding to know if others will respect the Law of the Seas.” Turley then added that he hopes Trump’s AG doesn’t act in as amoral fashion as Schiff and the Democrats did, saying, “Hopefully, Bondi will show greater principle and restraint than Schiff or other Democrats.”
Turley further added, commenting on what Schiff’s opinion on the law and the rules seemed to be, at least when he was in power and able to attack MAGA Republicans, “Schiff previously seemed to view any code or rules as mere guidelines rather than binding authority in pursuing Trump and his allies by any means.”
Commenting on what should happen to Schiff, one person quote-tweeted Turley’s post and demanded he face the legal fire, saying, “adam schiff is doomed. he is going to pay the price for his illegal conduct. and unlike the war he waged, the consequences will be due to his actual conduct, not some made up bullshit. lawyer up pencil neck.”
Another commenter on Turley’s post said, commenting on what he thinks Schiff did and ought be punished for, “Cut to the chase.. Schiff committed multiple treasonous crimes and he’s desperately trying to wiggle his way out of being held accountable. Bondi is light years smarter than him and won’t fall for his traps.”
