The State of the Union Address was Thursday night, and while the speech turned out to be little more than a Biden campaign speech, there were still entertaining and dramatic moments. The evening was dominated by Biden yelling for no reason, slurring his words, and hammering democrat talking points, but the actual state of the union is no clearer now than it was 24 hours ago.
Most of the speech was spent criticizing Trump, insulting SCOTUS, and stoking fear regarding reproductive rights, Russia, and January 6, but Republicans managed to make themselves heard as well. Of course, it is a regular occurrence at the annual event for members of each party to heckle whoever the president is. This year, one particular firebrand Republican landed a savage body blow to Biden with a very loud, very vocal request.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has long been one of the more controversial members of the House of Representatives and one of the more vocal critics of Joe Biden. MTG is also a staunch supporter of President Trump. This fact was evident when cameras caught MTG as Biden was walking in. Greene, wearing a red “MAGA” hat and a red jacket adorned with pins, also featured a t-shirt reading “Say Her Name,” referencing slain Georgia nursing student Laken Riley.
While discussing his tax plan and throwing out popular Democrat catchphrases like “pay their fair share” when speaking of corporations and the rich, Greene hilariously and loudly stood up and yelled, “Tell Hunter to pay his taxes.” Hunter Biden was indicted on nine tax violations in a Los Angeles federal court, and the irony of the moment was too much for MTG to pass up.
When talking about his far-fetched tax plan, Biden said: “Look, I’m a capitalist. If you want to make a million bucks – great! Just pay your fair share in taxes. A fair tax code is how we invest in the things – that make a country great, health care, education, defense, and more.” Indeed, the hypocrisy in Biden’s statement wasn’t lost on the audience at home, as likely many folks sitting in their living rooms had the same thought as MTG.
The indictment alleges Hunter Biden “willfully failed to pay his 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 taxes on time, despite having access to funds to pay some or all of these taxes.” Hunter Biden had long denied any wrongdoing regarding his tax situation, but as the walls closed in on him, Biden finally was forced to come clean about his tax evasion.
Special counsel David Weiss said in a statement that Biden spent “millions of dollars on an extravagant lifestyle.” The indictment also alleged between 2016 and 2020, Hunter Biden binged on “drugs, escorts and girlfriends, luxury hotels and rental properties, exotic cars, clothing, and other items of a personal nature. In short, everything but his taxes.” In the words of his father, Hunter Biden did not ‘pay his fair share.’
Even though the State of the Union was essentially a political statement against his enemies, Biden still felt the sting from MTG. On a night that saw lots of shouting from the bully pulpit, many lies and half-truths, and rhetoric designed to incite fear, at least Marjorie Taylor Greene brought some levity and landed a solid blow, reminding America of the hypocrisy of the Biden Administration.
